SNAP/Cohasset Yoga Center

SNAP and the Cohasset Yoga Center are pleased to offer a yoga program for students with special needs.  This program is offered to middle and high school students who receive special education services.  The program will take place on Mondays at the Cohasset Yoga Center and will be taught by Kathleen Picardi, who has been a practitioner of yoga for the past five years.  Kathleen received “Yoga for the Special Child” training, and she has taught at South Shore Educational Collaborative and South Shore Support Services.

Dates:  September 28, October 5, 19, 26, November 2, 9

Time:  3:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Location:  Cohasset Yoga Center, 124 King Street, Cohasset

The program will be limited to 10 participants and 1:1 support will be provided to students who require it.

The cost of the program is $15/session and it is suggested that participants attend as many sessions as possible in order to receive the most benefit from the program.Students should wear comfortable clothing such as sweatpants and a t-shirt (no
jeans).  Sneakers should be easy to remove.

This class is designed specifically to benefit students with Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Attention Deficit Disorder, Learning Disabilities, and other developmental delays.   All levels of ability are welcome.  Each class follows the same outline with
routines coordinated with the individual’s level of development.  Students will participate in five essential yoga practices:  music, breathing practices, cleansing practices, body postures and deep relaxation.  These practices are designed to strengthen and stretch the entire musculoskeletal system, balance the nervous system, increase breathing efficiency, improve body awareness, improve communication skills, increase each student’s ability to self regulate, and of course provide a relaxing and engaging experience.

This program is open to middle and high school students in Hingham, Hull, Norwell, and Cohasset who receive special education services.  Registration information and required forms will be available at:  www.hinghamsports.com.
