NAMI Course Starts 9/29
From NAMI The National Alliance on Mental Illness By Cara Voutselas, J.D. NAMI Basics Teacher NAMI Basics will be offered in Acton, MA starting Tuesday September 29, between 7:00 - 9:30pm. Experts agree that children and adolescents are growing up in an increasingly complex and stressful world full of social and academic challenges. Some of our kids are struggling to manage them due to biological, psychological and/or social issues. The symptoms of these underlying issues may include school avoidance, isolation, poor grades, self-harm, problems with relationships, impulsivity, poor decision-making, defiance, eating disorders and substance abuse. NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is offering an educational program - “NAMI Basics”, specially designed for parents and other caregivers of adolescents and children living with emotional or behavioral challenges . The course is taught by trained volunteer teachers who themselves are parents and/or caregivers of children living with emotional difficulties. This structure creates an intimacy that few programs possess and consequently, one whose capacities are unparalleled. It is an evidenced-based program that's recognized across the country.
