PILGRIM AREA COLLABORATIVE EXTENDED SERVICES (PACES)
presents RELATIONSHIPS AND SEXUAL HEALTH: HOW AND WHAT TO TALK ABOUT WEDNESDAY MAY 11TH 7-9PM Pilgrim Academy located at 42 Industrial Park Road, Plymouth, MA. Talking about sexuality and intimacy is uncomfortable or difficult for most parents, but when you have a child with social challenges it is often more complex. Most students with social challenges develop biologically at a faster rate than they do socially and emotionally. During this workshop we will discuss this sensitive topic and provide concrete and specific information on how to address sexuality and intimacy with your child in a clear, direct way. This workshop will give an overview of a curriculum of lessons that professionals and parents can utilize to teach the complex topics of both sex education and relationships. The presentation will outline how to teach both the "technical" aspects of sex education (e.g. anatomy, reproductive health, sexual responses, partnered sex, contraception, and sexually transmitted infections). As well as, exploring the social aspects of romantic relationships (e.g., preparing for dating, regular dating, stages of relationships, moving into longer term relationships). Emphasis will be on strategies and skills suitable for teaching to older high school students or young adults. This workshop is intended for students with social differences/high functioning ASD. The workshops is free and will take place at the Pilgrim Academy located at 42 Industrial Park Road, Plymouth, MA. There is limited space for each and registration is on a first come first serve basis. If you are interested in registering for any of the workshops please contact Debbie Crothers at [email protected] or 781.293.6111 ext. 2704
