This workshop is designed to empower parents as advocates for your children in the IEP (Individual Education Plan) process. It will provide you with a foundation of knowledge, practical strategies, and effective approaches to working with your child's school in a collaborative and productive way. You will learn about IEPs, services needed in school, and Massachusetts law. It will also address the learning and generalization of nonacademic skills such as: social skills, organizational skills, self-advocacy, and independent living skills. You will leave with a worksheet for IEP planning that you can update and use each year. Presented by Jean Stern, MEd Adjunct Consultant/AANE Trainer Jean Stern is an independent ASD trainer and consultant. She was the Director of Children's Services at AANE and a Mass General Hospital Aspire consultant. Jean now provides training, consultation, and parent and professional support throughout Cape Cod. The Easter Seals Youth Leadership Network (YLN) empowers youth between the ages of 14 and 26 to use self-advocacy to take control of planning their adult lives and experience educational and professional success. Join the Easter Seals Youth Leadership Network Kick-Off Event in your city and become part of the Don’t dis ABILITY Campaign to help reduce bullying! Participation in the YLN provides you with opportunities to: 1. Understand your right to self-determination and develop pride as a person with a disability 2.
